The Funky Nomadz were a breakdance crew based out of Evanston, IL.
They were looking for crew shirts that were “clean, but not too clean”, and also conveyed their story of being a nomadic crew without a consistent practice spot, wandering around Evanston looking for any smooth surface to dance on.
For this design I went with a simple hand written back graphic with a slightly rough finish. I chose hand written text as an allusion to handstyle graffiti and its hip-hop roots, and the rough finish ensures a “not too clean” look.
The logo is foot in a compass style graphic, referencing the wandering nature of the crew, as well as the footwork element of breakdance.
